Yeah so, I've been a big Death Note fan since it was released, and there's a huge reason it's as hyped as it is, it's actually an amazing show.

For those of you who don't know what it's about it's about a Japanese student named Yagami Light who finds a notebook dropped by the shinigami (Death God) Ryuk. It turns out that any human who's name is written in the book dies.

More or less, Light, who is one of Japan's top high school students, a veritable genius, decides to "cleanse" the world of malicious criminals so criminals in jails everywhere start dropping dead of heart attacks by the hundreds in a matter of days. Naturally, the police are alerted by this, and the show commences as a mind game between Light, who the Japanese public refers to as "Kira" (taken from the English "Killer") and a private detective who goes by the alias "L" working loosely in tandem with the police.

The story is engaging and suspensful because the entire time it seems like Light is slowly being trapped, but he uses the Note in increasingly clever ways to divert his attention elsewhere, and Light's interior monologue keeps you interested as you watch him think out all the possibilities and pick his course of action. As the story unfolds, you eventually find yourself trying to decide whether or not you would want someone to kill all the criminals, or if you side with "L" and the police instead.

This is right at the top of my 'anime to watch' list. It has a really interesting and original premise, and I'm dying to see what they do with it.

The anime speeds the story up. It passes over some less important concepts, but also misses a few important areas.

I love Death Note. It's one of the only works where I've found myself rooting equally for the good and bad guys. It also stimulates you intellectually, as you try to figure out exactly what Light is plotting at any given time.

Well, I agree with attrition, check it out.

I read and loved the manga. I got bored with the anime.

Here's an idea..Shut up! I have an opinion and I'm going to state it, whether you like it or not! It's in my top three, sure..But then again you don't read what read or watch what I watch..So you wouldn't understand..It's not as good as you people think it is!

I got bored with Death note, so bored I ceased watching Adult Swim entirely.

Does Adult Swim show the Japanese or dubbed version?

Dubbed is weak. It's only natural that you'd get bored by it :3

I really enjoyed watching the Deathnote series and have since read a few mangas and watched the movies as well. Like others have said, it really makes you question who you are rooting for. At first I despised "L" but later on in the series I really started to question why I hated him so much haha. Truly a good series but find out for yourself ;D

I really liked Death Note up until Mello and Near were introduced; I really disliked their characters, I thought they were rather poor compared to L.

For an animé this show is pretty good.

I like Death Note - but it is far too long they are jumping more and more sharks are they go along.

Near was alright though.

Near pissed me off; you can stop watching the anime after episode 25 and still be satisfied. The anime was better to watch, in my opinion, than the movies. However, I liked the ending of the movies FAR more.

Edit: Also, meep, if you want to make fun of people for watching anime then you've picked the wrong thread to do it in.

I liked the show alright, I watched it last year as it was being fansubbed. The week between episodes was annoying but overall I enjoyed the show. I haven't seen much of the English dub, but what I have heard I wasn't crazy about. Obviously some stuff was WAY overdramatic and almost impossibly complex, but still entertaining at least.

Really the show ended episode 25.

I've just watched up to episode 27, and I see what you all mean now. The story ends, but the series just keeps going anyway. It's like I'm watching Death Note 2 - A New Hope.

But it is a damn good series, I'm impressed. Definitely lives up to the hype.

Everytime I watch it I get the urge to eat sweets though. And start planning out complicated Machiavellian schemes in my head.
