Description: A Star Wars fanfic...

Just thought I would post this fic here to get a little more interest. I have it elsewhere. I've recently gone through a patch of writers block so am in need of inspirations to begin writing again... Here goes...

--

My name? Barriss Offee. I am a Jedi padawan learner, a healer, and my Master is Luminara Unduli. This is my first solo mission and I know I’m being tested on this journey, I assume for my healing abilities which were put to use all to quickly upon my arrival, but with knowing my Master the way I have come to, I could be very wrong in my assumptions. I do feel that this may be part of my jedi trials though. I am on the planet Drongar where the Separatists are waging war against the Republic. The prize of this particular war being a medicinal plant called Bota.

The reference from Bota I know by heart, as any healer would, especially when going to the planet in which it comes from. Bota has embodying characteristics of both fungus and mold, and is believed to be native only to the swamp world. Like several other fungus found on Drongar, bota is highly adaptogenic, changing its chemical makeup to adapt to different environmental situations. This ability also makes processed bota the virtually perfect wonder-drug, since it can be used in a variety of treatment without side effects. In humans, it is a potent antibiotic. In Neimoidians, it acts as a narcotic painkiller. To Hutts and many other races, it is a stimulant that is safer and more powerful than glitterstim. The only drawback to the mass-production of bota is that of its shelflife. Once harvested and freeze-dried, is no more than a few days before it degenerates into a slimy ooze.

The properties of this magical wonder-drug, I am well versed in as I am a Healer. If only we could use the bota on the patients here, but that is not to be for we are not allowed to use it no matter the cause being great. All the processed bota is to be shipped off world to other medical centers, other wars. Day after day more casualties are brought in. Mostly the clone troopers, but also some of what are known as the regular soldiers. The beings that are not clones that joined the military forces and fight side by side with the clones.

Moments after I had arrived, the air lifters brought in several loads of casualties from a nearby battle, the one that we had flown over on the way down. Our Rimsoo was under staffed, that is another reason why I was sent. Rimsoo seven, one military medical unit among many set up to deal with the day to day casualties of war. Five lifters full of casualties, each able to carry sixteen of them… my introduction to this part of the war.

I only had a brief moment of introduction to the medical staff before we were all heading into the theatres. The wash of pain that flowed over me caused me to hesitate slightly before joining them, one of my fellow doctors, Jos Vondar, turned to look at me,

“Lets hope the Force is with you, Jedi Offee, because it’s going to be a long, hot day.”

He entered the camp’s center where the initial triage calls were made as the wounded were taken off the lifters, priorities given to the worst cases. I followed quickly, having calmed myself by repeating the jedi code, breathing deeply of the humid air and letting the pain of others flow through me before I went to face them. Soon I was too busy to focus on anything but trying to keep them alive.
