Nicholas Williams ((Nick))
Nick grumbled under his breath as he unpacked his suitcase. "Late. Always late. Missed orientation...." He shook his head and tossed a couple t-shirts into the top drawer of the dresser. From the looks of the dorm room he didn't have a roomate which would be both good and bad. Good because he would be alone. Bad for the same reason. He wasn't very good at making friends and if left to himself he would just turn on music and stay that way. After making his bed with some sheets he found in the closet Nick propped the window open and sat on the floor doing some stretches. There wasn't much room to dance but he could at least do some exercises.

Christine Owen
Christine had never looked back as she made her way down the hallway. She was so angry at herself that she had fallen for Noah's charms! He had made her think that he was different from other men when he really wasn't. She vowed that she wouldn't let that happen to her again.
As she passed the doors she found the one to Room #6 open. She would have passed it but she saw a figure doing what appeared to be stretches. She recognized some of those stretches immediately as being one that a dancer would do, particularly ballet. She stopped at the door and looked inside watching with wonderment.

Nick slowly sat up from doing a back stretch over his right leg and saw a rather attractive girl standing in the doorway. "Umm hi." He jumped up from the floor and dusted his jeans off. "I'm Nicholas Williams. Though most people call me Nick. Only Mum calls me Nicholas" He winced slightly as her realized that he was rambling, something he did when he was nervous. He held out one hand to her so she could shake it and smiled slightly. "I'm new around here. Missed orientation."

Christine shook her head for a moment and then shook his hand. "Christine, Christine Owen. Look, I'm....I'm sorry that I was watching you. It's just that...well I like dancers, particularly ballet. I think that ballet is one of the most beautiful expressions of dance. I saw you stretching so...well...I figured that you must be a dancer." She paused. "Are you?"

Nick
He grinned widely. "Yes Ma'am I am. 10... or is it 12 years now? I love to dance." Nick motioned at the pair of well worn ballet slippers that lay casually on the bed. "The dorm room doesn't offer much space for dancing sadly. But at least I don't have a roomate." His smile faded as he realized she was still leaning against the doorway. "You want to sit down or come in... Or something?" He rubbed the back of his neck shyly. "I'm not very good at this."

"10 or 12 years?" Christine asked. "You have really been dancing that long? Well, I'm sure you're very good at it then. As for dancing space? I'm sure they have a place somewhere here at the academy where you can do that." She paused. "As for me...I was just heading out to explore this place. Would...you like to join me? I know you said that you missed orientation but...all they did was talk a little and gave us this packet with a map and such. You can look at mine if you like?"

"Yeah that would be great. My flight got delayed.... Happens a lot." Nick scooped his ballet shoes into the duffel bag and tossed his small cd player in there too. "If we find a stage or something I can practice." He smiled slightly at his lame explanation and locked the door behind them. "I like to act and this way I can still dance. I'll probably have to learn to sing but..." He made a face and shrugged. "Am I the only one without a roomate?"

Christine Owen
"Oh you came by plane?" Christine asked. "I came by car actually with my parents...oh and my brother. My brother is attending the music academy not far from here."
She walked with him out the door. "As for having to sing? Well, they tell me if you wish to go into musical theatre you should know how to dance and sing. I have the singing part down but...not the dancing. So it looks like we both have something to work on." She grinned. "As for not having a roomate? Well, I have one but so far she hasn't shown up. Maybe she found out who her roomate is and that's why she hasn't come to the room?" She shrugged her shoulders. "Who knows? If my roomate never shows up then perhaps I shall be in my own room as well?"
She started walking with him down the hallway.

He shut the door behind him and locked it. Nick smiled a little glad that he had made a friend. "And" He reminded himself "She's not dating Noah. That could be a good thing." His cell phone went off, an electronic rendition of a popular Fall Out Boy song coming from the hunk of plastic. "Say your piece." He tossed his large black suitcase onto the bed and unzipped it.
"Heya pet."
Nick stood up straight and grinned "Hey Mum."
A chuckle sounded over the line. "You sound surprised to hear me. You can't blame me for calling my boy can you? How is it Nicholas?"
"Well... It's all right. I don't have a roomate yet so thats good. And I met this girl who will help me with my singing." He walked over to the dresser and slid a stack of t-shirts into the drawer.
"A girl? Tell me all about her. Is she cute? Does she like you? She's not Buddhist is she?"
"Mom! Hold on a second." Nick interrupted his mothers flow of questions while trying to hold back his laughter. "We just met today so its not like we're getting married or anything. Besides... I'm not here to date anyone. I'm here to act."
"Yes darling I know. Well I'll let you finish settling in. Don't forget to take your pills... And please don't dance too much. I don't want you hurting yourself."
He ran a hand through his short blonde hair and sighed "I won't get hurt Mum. I'll be careful."
"I worry about you. Just take care all right? I love you Nicky."
"I love you too." He snapped his phone shut and set it on the desk. The accident had changed so many things. Least of all the relationship between him and his Mom. Nick continued putting his things away.

He had finished unpacking all of his things except a few posters and the picture of course. Nick set the frame on the nightstand and kissed the girls face. "Hey Jess... You're really missing out girl." He smiled sadly and sighed before turning back to the stack of rolled up posters. Carefully he slif the rubber bands off of each one and began to hang them on the walls and ceiling. The shot of the NYCB doing Swan Lake was a bit tricky as it was so large. Nick stood on the bed holding the thin sheet of paper to the wall with one hand and thumbtacks in the other.

Jake Matheson
Jake Matheson made his way down the hallway with his sunglasses on and his duffle swung over his shoulder. He had arrived late but he truly did not care. At this point they should be glad that he got there at all. He had followed the signs to the theatre but when he arrived, found it empty. Rather than ask someone for where he was supposed to go, he headed to the office where he retrieved his student packet. He had made eyes at the secretary as was his usual style and had given him his packet with a graceful smile. He would definitely remember her.
With his IPOD on and his headphones in his ears, he made his way to Room #6 wondering just who his roomate would be. It was too bad that the academy wasn't a co-ed dorm situation but at least there were ladies about.
He walked into the room and then saw a young man hanging up a poster. His sunglasses then slipped down his nose when he saw what the poster was. "Ballet?Oh dude, uh uh no friggin way."

"Ballet?Oh dude, uh uh no friggin way."
Nick glanced over his shoulder and finished hanging the poster. "Well... I'm sorry but I'm not about to give up my art." He smiled and held out one hand for the newcomer to shake. "Nicholas Williams, though Nick is preferrable." The other boy just stared at him for a second "Don't worry. I'm not gay." He chuckled at the thought and went back to hanging his posters.

Jake Matheson
"Jake Matheson." Jake replied as he briefly shook Nick's hand. "And dude, I wasn't saying that you were gay. But....I'm glad that you reassured me. I'm not trying to put you down on your taste." He took his duffle bag off his shoulder and placed it on a bed. "But if you plan on having chicks in here? Dude, the ballet posters just aren't going to work. If you aren't gay, the chick who sees those posters just might think it."

Nick Williams
Nick shrugged and shoved his suitcase under the bed. "Well I'm not here to impress anyone. I came to the Academy to act and hopefully dance. Besides... I'm not very good when it comes to girls." He ran his hand through his short blond hair. "My Mum always said I'm socially challenged... Which is of course just a nice way of saying that I'm shy."
Dana - April 12, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
Jake Matheson
Jake chuckled. "Not very good with girls eh? Well, if you have these posters and your ballet are any indications, I can see why. But seriously, if you need help with girls, just ask me. I would be glad to give you some pointers." He took a seat on a bed. "So, you're here to study acting and ballet? I'm more into acting myself. I hear they have a great acting program here and Shakespeare as well."

He chuckled and nodded "Yeah some help would be welcome. Back home the only girl I'd talk to was my bestfriend." Nick pointed to the picture on his nightstand. "She was something else." He sighed and smiled slightly. "There was a bad accident about a year and a half ago. My legs got messed up but Jess didn't make it." He was quiet for a minute before adding softly "I really miss her."

Jake Matheson and Christine Owen
Jake turned to look at the picture. "Wow, she's something! And you say you were only friends with her?"
He then took on a more somber attitude upon hearing about the accident. "Oh, hey dude, I'm sorry. But you know what? For your legs getting messed up you're still doing this ballet thing. In a way...it might be a tribute to her you know? And you can..."
Christine had walked from first aid back to Nick's room. "Nick?" She asked as she stood in the doorway. "Noah is resting now so...we can still take that tour if you like?" She then saw another guy in the room. "Oh, I'm....I'm sorry. I didn't realize that you had company."
Jake rose from the bed and walked toward her. "Oh, it's no trouble at all pretty lady." He took Christine's hand gently. "My name is Jake Matheson and I just arrived. And you are?"
"Chris....Christine. Christine Owen."
"Christine Owen? What a pleasure it is to meet you." He then brought her hand up to his lips and kissed the top of it. "And how fortunate that you are first young lady that I have met here. For now...all of the rest of them must be compared to your beauty."
Christine closed her eyes and blushed.

Nick Williams
Nick looked away as Jake kissed Christene's hand. Now why can't you do things like that? He's already made her blush and he hasn't known her for less than 5 minutes! He stood and shouldered his backpack again. "Yeah if you want. I haven't really seen much of the place. How's Noah doing?" He felt a twinge of something that could be jealousy but shoved it away. There really was no reason to be jealous... they were just friends. Only friends.... Jakes words flashed in his mind like a neon sign on Main Street. He'd loved Jess and been her best friend. It had been the best thing he'd ever experienced. But life had a way of changing things. "Did you still want me to show you some dance steps Christene? I'm unpacked so there's really nothing else to do right now."

Christine's attention went back to Nick. "Hmmm? Oh, how is Noah doing? Well, he's...he's resting. He seems to be better now and the nurse is taking care of him. I think he's more scared than anything."
"Brother?" Jake asked.
"Hmmm? Oh you mean, Noah? No, he's not my brother."
"Boyfriend?"
Christine chuckled slightly. "No, he's not my boyfriend either. He's just a student I've met."
"How fortunate for the rest of the guys here." Jake replied with a smile.
"Yes, well..." She cleared her throat and looked over at Nick. "I would love you to show me those dance steps, Nick."
Jake looked at Christine and then back at Nick.

Nick grinned broadly and flashed a look in Jakes direction. "Great. See you later." He waved at the other boy and held the door of the room open for Christene. See that wasn't that hard was it? Just be friends and then in a couple weeks... who knows? "So... What ballet would you like to learn from? Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker... I know a bunch."

Christine Owen and Jake Matheson
"Which one?" Christine asked. "Well, I like all of them so..." She paused at the door and turned around. "Oh, it was nice to meet you, Jake."
"Likewise." Jake replied with an almost astonished look on his face. "Christine."
I don't believe it! She chose the ballet dude over me?!
Christine gave a smile before following Nick. "Hmmm...now back to those choices. Well, I have always liked Swan Lake or Romeo and Juliet. But...to me all ballet is graceful."
